It appears that there is a bug in the way that the cc65 time library works on the 64 and 128 as in both versions the elapsed time runs about 50% slow compared to actual time.

It's possible to trigger a possible bug in the CMD HD firmware, creating a directory with so many spaces in the name that it overwrites the next directory entry. Here are my steps using 2.1:

1: get 2.1 d64 to a 1541 (dev 8). My cmd hd is on dev 13.

load"*",8
run

In cbm commander, follow these keypresses:
d (select drive)
13 (select cmd hd)
@cp130 (my test partition)

At this point, I'm in the test partition. I tested with an empty partition as I had to diredit the first one this occured on.

Press F7 to make a new directory, then just press return. The commander comes back with a garbage directory name. Upon exit, the directory is like so:

130 "test " hd 1h
2 "
8224 dir

Note that 8224 is 32*256+32. This means two spaces are present where the file size entry in the directory would be.

There are two issues here: First, cbm commander should treat an empty directory name as a cancel request or present an error.
The second issue is likely not within cbm commander but can be mitigated by checking the name of the directory before submitting to the drive.

I'm curious to see the string cbm commander sends in this instance to understand why the cmd hd proceeds with creating the directory. :)

Closed Issue: CMB Command 2.1RC2 Won't copy REL file [7579]

Whenever I try to copy a REL file that is inside a .d81 image on a uiec/sd, I simply get a "31,syntax error,00,00 (RET)". Not only does it not copy the file, but the program doesn't accept the return-key. The only way to clear the error is to arrow over to the other pane.

Add code to access both drives on dual disk-drive devices, different logical units on Lt. Kernal and Rear Admiral hard-drives, and different partitions on Creative Micro Designs drives (and their heirs, such as IDE64 and sd2iec). The program will be able to copy files between two file-systems on the same device. It should be able to read a CMD disk-emulation partition, and create an image on a bigger partition (and, go in the opposite direction, too). (Sub-directory path support might be added during a later upgrade.)

Commodore sold IEEE-488 bus adapter cartridges for the VIC-20, 64, and 128. So, those computers can use the CBM family of disk drive units. VICE can emulate those adapters.

That is why I think that the D80 image should contain all of the ports of the two programs.

D64 and D80 images and a compressed D64 file can be downloaded.
The D64 doesn't have the PET/CBM ports of the programs.
CBM-Command cannot create CBM 8050 disks, yet; but, the image is provided, anyway.

New Features:

Provides Side-By-Side panels or Top-And-Bottom panels on 40-column systems.
Batch disk image creation.
User can select drive or partition number.
The disks have a little BASIC-language program that can update your configuration files.

Updates from RC1:

The help file explains how to use a new feature of the configuration utility.
The configuration-file updater adds another configurable key to your personal configurations.
The D80 image was rebuilt, in order to work around a VICE bug.

Known Issues:

It can trigger the write-and-replace bug.
It can't create or write back D80 and D82 images.
The REL-file copier doesn't truncate old target files that have the same record size as the new file.
It will try to copy DEL files if they are selected.
Errors don't stop batch operations; the file is skipped.

What is it?

CBM-Command is a disk manager for the Commodore 64, Commodore 128, Commodore VIC-20, Commodore Plus/4, and Commodore Pet/CBM computers. It is written in the vein of Norton Commander or Midnight Commander; but, it is much simpler due to the target platforms. Each Commodore model has its own native version of the application.

What does it do?

It works on both real machines and the VICE emulators.

Added colons to the file-names in the BASIC configuration-file updater, so that it won't risk hurting disks in single-drive units. (I forgot to mention in changeset 79065 that I added the panel-display toggle key to the updaters in both master images.)

* Removed a hole in the directory of the master D64 image. * Added, to the help file, an instruction about the configuration program's drive number spinner. * Rebuilt the master D80 image. VICE's CBM 8050 emulation code currently doesn't handle the BAM correctly. So, the D80 has a hidden allocated sector chain that forces C1541 to write files to places where they won't overwrite other files.
